Each year the 6 of us renew our friendship. There’s some sort of magic in our bond. It’s been decades since we were in college and here we are again, catching up, laughing, and remembering old times. We’ve held each other through weddings, marriages, divorces, births,…and deaths. Staying in touch gives each of us something different. For me, it is my time to remember where I started in life, and it grounds me. This connection with my girls/gang is part of my solid ground, my roots, my survival, and my retreat.
Taking time for yourself, and connecting with others in the process impacts what you do on a day to day basis. The time for yourself gives you a chance to breathe easily. It gives you a chance to connect with yourself and what really matters. When you constantly get bombarded with demands from your family, to-do lists, and work, you lose a piece of who you are. A piece that is essential for the decisions you make and for your peace of mind.
To maintain sanity and connection, take time for yourself and come back with a new perspective on your life. This week during a break, take a walk around your building at work, climb the stairs, or sit in your office for 5 minutes with a Do Not Disturb sign on your door. See how you feel after this bit of time by yourself and tweak the process as you see fit. Share your tips and tricks here.
